Jason C. Slot, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Mycology and Evolutionary Genomics with interests in fungal manipulation of animal nervous systems. Dr. Slot received a B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and an M.A. in Science Education from Boston University. His doctoral dissertation at Clark University, and his postdoctoral work at Vanderbilt University focused on the molecular evolution of ecologically relevant genes in fungi. As faculty of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA, he uses comparative and functional genomics along with metabolomics to investigate the ecology and evolution of fungal natural products. Pioneering sequencing of psilocybin mushroom genomes in his lab recently led to the identification and evolutionary analysis of psilocybin gene clusters. Dr. Slot is further involved in multiple conservation and educational initiatives in the psychedelic space.
